Maharashtra Bhushan and Magasasay Award Winner Dr. Abhay Bang was invited as the Chief Guest in the Felicitation Ceremony of the Nisarg Seva Samiti. The felcitation was jointly organised by the college and a local felicitation committee, on Dec.05,2009.

The Cultural Committee observed 'The Mahaparinirvan Diwas - The Death Anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar', on Dec.06,2009.

Dr. Shirish Chindhade, on Dec.07 made a power point presentation on 'Globalisation and Higher Education in India'.

The English Literary Association was on Dec. 07 inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Shirish Chindhade, a renowned author and literary figure from Pune, who has been on several peer teams of NAAC.

A district level Workshop on 'the Art of Creative Writing'was on Dec.10 organised by the Department of Marathi for the U.G.& P.G. college students,which received an unprecedented response.As many as 350 students attended the workshop.

Mr.Anant Khelkar(a well-known poet),Dr.Devendra Punse (a well-known story-writer)and Mr.Narendra Ingale (a well-known playwright) were the chief speakers in the workshop.

A Brief Perspective
The College is situated at Wardha, an otherwise insignificant district in Vidarbha, Maharashtra,which owes its historical significance mainly to its association with the names of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave. After Independence,the rural areas of this district, as everywhere in the country, were educationally far backward.Inspired by the teachings of the two great souls, Late Bapuraoji Deshmukh, the Founder President of this institution,devoted himself to the cause of spreading education among the masses; for which he founded the Yeshwant Rural Education Society,Wardha in 1959 and began to open schools and colleges at the villages and towns in the district.

On 20th June, 1960, Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya,Wardha was the first college to be established by this society. The inauguration of the college took place on 8th September, 1960, at the hands of Late Yeshwantrao Chavan,the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Affiliated to RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur,it has maintained its reputation as one of the best and oldest colleges in the region;which is evident from the B++ Grade it received in its recent NAAC Accreditation. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Science, Home Science and Law. Several academic, cultural,NCC,NSS,Sports and Extension activities are regularly conducted for the all-round developement of the personalities of the students.

The Yeshwant Rural Education Society

Established in 1959, today, this society runs 22 schools, 3 hostels, 10 junior colleges, 4 senior colleges, and 1 engineering college.It is important to note that this society has got THE BEST EDUCTION SOCIETY AWARD-2001 given by GOVERNMENT OF MAHARASHTRA.
